Ecology - Rules for Living on Earth: Crash Course Biology

Hank introduces us to ecology - the study of the rules of engagement for all of us earthlings - which seeks to explain why the world looks and acts the way it does. The world is crammed with things, both animate and not, that have been interacting with each other all the time, every day, since life on this planet began, and these interactions depend mostly on just two things... Learn what they are as Crash Course Biology takes its final voyage outside the body and into the entire world.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a new Crash Course in ECOLOGY!

What is a gene?

What is a gene? Support Stated Clearly on Patreon:  https://www.patreon.com/statedclearly You've probably heard about GMOs or Genetically Modified Organisms but what exactly is a gene and what does it mean to modify the genes of a plant or animal? We hear about DNA and genes all the time in the news and in our biology classes but very few of us can actually explain what a gene is? This short film is designed to help. Here we discuss a basic definition of a gene, show what a gene looks like, what it is that genes actually code for, and the basic idea behind Genetically Modified Organisms.  The video also briefly mentions one of the ways DNA strongly suggests that all living things are related and share an evolutionary history. Even though the content given here is just a simplified overview of genetics, after watching this video (along with our first video on DNA  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwibgN... ) you should be able to easily follow any ne...

What is DNA and How Does it Work?

What is DNA and How Does it Work? Support Stated Clearly on Patreon:  https://www.patreon.com/statedclearly Issues of genetics and DNA are constantly cropping up in the news from food production and health, to legal cases and ethics. We hear about DNA in movies like Jurassic Park and X-men, we learn bits and pieces about it from TV shows like Dexter and and CSI, but what exactly is DNA, and how does it work? This animated short film has been made for those wanting a simple introduction (or even a refresher) on how DNA creates a living creature. In this video you will learn a bit about genetic code, DNA transcription and translation, and the importance of proteins in the chemistry of life. Video was written, presented, and animated by Jon Perry Music by Anthony Danzl (check out his website at  http://www.proofavenue.com  ) Research and instructional design by Varinia Acosta  You can learn more about DNA and Stated Clearly on our website at...

Del Porto's Schematic video

Del Porto's Schematic video This is the fly over and through of the schematic design phase of our new house. We are now into the design development phase. To see the floor plan, send me an email and I'll reply with the PDF with sticky notes. Our architect, Agnes Vorbrodt-Schurma, shows the house on the bank of a river, but the site is yet to be selected.  The design follows the program established in my Sustainable Aging in Place paper, see:  www.ecological-engineering.com/aging-in-place.pdf.  The plans and paper are copyright protected,  For a short bio see: www.ecological-engineering.com/delporto.pdf http://www.ecological-engineering.com/

Take a tour through our "Knowledge Garden"

Take a tour through our "Knowledge Garden" Ecologic Institute in five minutes Ecologic Institute is a private not-for-profit think tank for applied environmental research, policy analysis and consultancy with offices in Berlin, Brussels, Vienna, Washington DC, and San Mateo CA. Sound complicated? It is! What do we work on? Who do we work for and who are we? What makes Ecologic Institute a ''Knowledge Garden''? This film provides answers to these questions. Das Ecologic Institut ist ein Think Tank für angewandte Umweltforschung, Politikanalyse und Beratung mit Büros in Berlin, Brüssel und Washington DC. Klingt kompliziert? Ist es auch. Womit genau beschäftigen wir uns? Für wen arbeiten wir und wer sind wir? Und warum ist das Ecologic Institut ein „Knowledge Garden"? Dieser Film gibt Antworten. The Evolution of Ecological Consciousness Video

The Evolution of Ecological Consciousness , Permaculture designer Andrew Faust of Center for Bioregional Living gives us an inspiring and heady narrative about the evolution of all life and human consciousness on Mother Earth. This is a brilliant condensation of the core of the scientific worldview with the metaphysical implications highlighted along the way. Drones help monitor health of giant sequoias

To dd Dawson’s field equipment always includes ropes and ascenders, which he and his team use to climb hundreds of feet into the canopies of the world’s largest trees, California’s redwoods. It’s laborious work, but he’ll soon be getting a little help. From drones. Discover the long version of our Climate Innovation video, shot in Whitaker Forest, California, USA, with Dr. Todd Dawson, Canopy Ecologist. http://news.berkeley.edu/2016/12/07/drones-help-monitor-health-of-giant-sequoias/
